Short Term Memory

A recent study has found a link between mindfulness and short-term memory. It is possible that the two processes are related. The hippocampus, the part of the brain that processes memories, is smaller in older people than in young adults. This change in structure is thought to influence a variety of cognitive functions, including attention and learning. According to the researchers, mindfulness meditation helps to reduce proactive interference that can affect short-term memory.

The researchers have demonstrated that the two processes can help each other. It also boosts attention, which is necessary for better working memory representations. This leads to higher chances of retrieval and consolidation. However, this research is ongoing, and more studies are needed. For now, however, there are no direct links between mindfulness and short-term memory, but they do suggest a link between the two. For instance, mindful meditation increases the ability to learn complex new tasks, such as math, and it increases the number of words one can remember at a time.

In addition to memory, mindfulness can improve the capacity to focus and concentrate. The benefits of this practice are well-documented. Although the process is simple and is available to anyone, it can increase the human brain's ability to learn, process, and retain information. This is called "proactive interference." But the research is not yet conclusive, so there is still much more work to be done to prove that it can positively affect the human mind.
